Okay, so it's Monday morning of what is sure to be a crazy week. By crazy, you probably assume that I mean work wise or something, right? No, I mean crazy as in "there's something in the water and it's a full moon combined to bring out the WHACK jobs" crazy.
This morning, I'm walking into work from where I park and I'm about to cross in front of the athletics building. I see skin flashing. And lot's of skin. I think..."hmmm, short running shorts" but no, everyone who is out (all 3 of us) are turned and gawking. Is this poor man "hangin' outta" his shorts? Is that the issue?
And then the crowd parts.
Oh, he's not in shorts. He's in a T shirt and a white and black pattered leopard print banana hammock! EWWWWW!
Now, admittedly, I've gone in to the pool before 1st thing in the am in my bathing suit - under my CLOTHES or at least with a pair of workout pants and only the top part of my racerback, totally non-exposing Speedo.
But full on banana hammock strutin'?!? Wrong...just wrong - especially when that's the first thing you're exposed to in the am.
*shudder*
In an effort to save those I care about from biblical-length emails, and not turn into the crazy lady who talks to her cats, I've put my inner rants and ponderings into a blog in a narcissistic need to fill the cosmic void.

What would they do without me?
That title is dripping in sarcasm. I've been at work for under 30 minutes. In that time, I've coached someone on how to input a picture into a word document (did I mention that this is the same caliber of staff that they expect can maintain a website???) and just trouble shooted a laptop/projector issue from my chair. Want to know what the issue was? The laptop wasn't plugged into the wall and the battery was shot. Right.
So I ask again, what would they do without me? >:o|

Okay, now I'm gettin' weirded out
So, after I wrote that little diatribe about angels yesterday, I had two really weird things happen to me.
1) I was walking to my car and I ran into C so we stopped to chat. Along comes the Chaplain on campus to talk to us and I can't help but think that it's just ironic that minutes earlier I was goin' to town on big G god.
2) This am, I went to see if I had any comments to my blog post of yesterday (specifically to see if SIL had read it and again reminded me yet again that I'm going to hell). I then see this thing on the top of my blog saying "next blog" so I'm like, oh, does that take me to my next posting or something? No, it takes you to the next blog in the blogger rotation (or whatever). Look at the blog it sent me to.
Okay, WTF? Is the cosmic void really trying to tell me something here? "If you have a soul to share, welcome to my pisque"? Ohhh....guess the fact that my eyes are burning means I have no soul. And even better WTF is with the creepy September 23rd posting that the pic is...you got it, a frickin' ANGEL???
If I was at all religious and at all questioning in my atheist views, I'd probably be running to the first church to be born again. Good thing I'm confident in my heathen ways. Do you think big G god is stalking me in his own divine way?

They're just creepy
Someone who obviously doesn't know me well just sent me a creepy forward. It was all "friends are special and I wish the best for you as God watches over you because you're special to me BLAH BLAH BLAH" with creepy little cherubs flying around.
WTF?
I mean really, I'm not at ALL religious (we've established that I've got that one way ticket to hell pretty much secured for eternity) but to add insult to injury, angels? Really, angels?
Angels give me the heebie geebies. I don't know what it is about them but they just bother the crap outta me. They're freaky and the concept of them "watching over you" weirds me out. Maybe it's just because they're like little minions of the big G and make me think of them like invisible mosquitoes or something...I dunno. But they creep me out. And let's not get into the fact that I kinda believe in reincarnation in an "energy can neither be created nor destroyed" rationale and I also believe in ghosts because that may just be in direct contradiction to my "angels are frickin' creepy" belief. Look, I never claimed to be rational.
As a side note, below is a pic of an Xmas gift I was once given by mycrazy religious endearing ex-mother-in-law (karma baby, karma - if I speak ill of the first one the universe is bound to pay me back 10 fold and send me an even worse one with my next relationship).

Thing is, I don't know if she thought that because it was a CAT that that made it okay to give this too me. And we've had the discussions about the whole angels creep me out factor (although I assume she blocks them from memory as god knows she was just exasperated by this heathen her son married who not only didn't believe in God but also wouldn't give her grandkids). Mostly these occurred around the fact that all my Christmas trees (yes trees for our new readers - I normally have 2-3 yearly) have stars on the top instead of creepy angels. And I know someone's going to try and point out the fact that that's representative of the star that led the three wise dudes to baby Jesus (pronounced Hey-Zeus -- what? I'm practicing for my Mexican vacation in January). To that I say "shush, 'nuff outta you! Better than having an angel with a pine branch up its ass!"
ANYWAYS, you would think that she would have picked up on that and not given me this gift. Hell, it could've only gotten better if she'd wrapped it up in a pair of booties she'd knitted ("Awe, look kitties, grandma made you slippers!" ;o) ). BTW, I tried to scan the pin and it broke - the halo fell off -BAH HA HA HA HA! Ohhh, that's big G god telling me something, eh? If you want to order me a new one for my upcoming birthday.... ;o)
All this to say, angels are just creepy - but does it surprise you any given my fondness for religious idols?

It's all growed up!
I launched my new website at work today. While I had a tremendous amount of help from the rock stars on the migration team, it still consumed my life last week. However, it went live to no feedback - silence is a good thing when it comes to launching new websites I've discovered! The best part about the launch? This conversation between me and my migration point of contact on the other side of the tracks:
MPOC: It's alive! The new GS website that is...
L: I feel like it's my baby's first day of school...I'm so proud of it and while I knew it was always coming, I never thought we'd actually get to see it - it always seemed so far off in the future.
*sniff sniff*
MPOC: I know - they grow up so fast. Soon your website will be taking drugs and getting knocked up by its boyfriend.
And who says the computer geeks don't have a sense of humour?
(Inside voice: great, now I've done it - my blog will now be attacked by trolls and haters)
Epilogue: I wrote too soon - I just got my first complaint call about the new site *sigh* Will you people NEVER be happy???

Flawed logic
For once, someone's logic is as flawed as mine is in my moments of brilliance and glory.
I decided to practice my dodging skills in preparation for my first dodge ball game tonight (awwww yeeeaaaaahhhh!) so I went into the Galleria at work between classes. I came out, toes unscathed and a full cup of hot chocolate nowhere on my person so I'd say, I was pretty good at dodging - bring it tonight I says.
Anyways, because I'm such a talented dodger, I even was able to pull my eyes away from the flow of traffic (the secret's in using your periferal vision) to see a table that was set up by our safety office. They're trying to get people to enter the emergency number into their cell phones. So their signs give you the step by step of how to do it with the promise of being entered into a draw for cash.
Sounds simple enough, non? Here's the dumas moment you've been waiting for. Okay, so I enter the extension...but I still have to call the generic uni number BEFORE I can enter the extension...it's not like it's a universally recognized 4 digit extension. And to prove I'm not just overly tired when thinking this logic is flawed, I tried it - hey, if big brother can monitor me via satellite then MAYBE, just MAYBE there's some whacked out roaming feature on campus I don't know about.
Nope - "your call cannot be completed as dialed." So even if you put in the uni number and the extension, you still need to call, have the uni pick up and then have the 4 digit extension dialed and that's like WAYYYY to complicated for my piece of crap Telus phone.
But hey, I'll waste some 0's and 1's in my phone if you're offering to let me have a chance to win some money doing it...

Mashed potatoes for my ears
If you've ever shared an office with me or been around me when I'm feeling stressed, nostalgic or a little blue, you'll know that I turn to Christmas music for my emotional fix. It soothes me, it makes me feel all warm and tingly inside and it reminds me of good times - it's like comfort food - so like mashed potatoes for my ears.
And get ready, after all, the big day is only 93 days away... ;o)

Woody Allen is gross
Okay, so I was in the process of suggesting some names to a friend for his new kitty when I thought, "hmmm, what would go well with his other cat's name Mia?" And then I thought, "didn't Mia Farrow and Woody Allen have a thing?"
Yeah, so, I wikipedia'd it. And Woody Allen is gross. Not only did he have a thing with MF, but he ALSO had and still has a thing with her adopted daughter. And their relationship came to an end when MF found nude photos of her adopted daughter in his apartment. Who cares that she was 21 when the photos were taken, it's still gross.
EWWWW.....
I'm sure some of you know this already but still, it's gross.
Didn't stop me from suggesting Woody to go with Mia (the cat)...hehe...

Jacked up on coffee and sugar
I skipped lunch today. I know, not the greatest of things for your bod and I normally don't skip it. I normally work through it but I usually make sure to fuel the brain with something. But I was fighting with my website (ahem, A) and so before I knew it, it was 3:00 p.m.
So down to Rooster's I went for a grill cheese sandwich. But when I got there, I saw the pastry case and this deliciously sinful and sugary looking square thing that called my name. Well, you can't have something like that with anything but a hot bevvie so I got a coffee. I normally find the coffee too bitter there but suck it up to support the student run business. I then accidentally put 18% cream in it - whoops, but MAN did it taste good - and 3 white deaths (sweetener).
Fast forward to 40 minutes later and you've got me talking even faster than I normally do (I KNOW! that in itself is a terrifying thought) and doing some funny little dance with my arms on either side of my body like a good Albertasaurus would and J scowling at me for ruining her Friday Afternoon Funk. I think it's the first time ever I've really ever felt a sugar/caffeine rush...
When I come down from this high, it's not going to be pretty.

I love fall
I love fall. It's my favourite time of the year. Save for the fact that my birthday is right around the corner (hint hint) but I just love it. The smell in the air, the coolness of the days, the switch to fall/winter wardrobe but more importantly...
Discovering shoes you forgot you had.
I have had a shoe rack under my desk now for several years but today I looked under to see what was there and discovered a newer pair of shoes from the spring that I had forgotten all about. It's like I just treated myself without spending a penny!
I know...it's nice that such small things amuse my small brain so much. Nobody has ever said I wasn't hard to please nor high maintenance, right?

Blast from the past
I logged into Facebook tonight to a nice surprise in my Inbox. No, FB hadn't gone back to the old interface (which, if you'll allow me to get on my soapbox for a moment, is shit especially because they didn't even add a "forward" option to your inbox so you can forward event invites like the MChen Wears Open House on October 19th at her place - you know you want to go because even the likes of Bryan Adams wears MChen Wears Ts).
I have a school mate that I haven't seen since I was 16. In the last year that this friend was around before his family moved out west, he and another friend (who is in Kingston and I don't see often enough) and I spent a lot of time together. I think at one point I may have even had a schoolgirl crush on him. Anyways, a bunch of us public school alum have been looking for this friend for over a year and a half and usually every 2-3 months I search his name again to see if he's been found.
And he found and sent me a message! It's just one of those rosey, feel good, nice to hear from someone you have such fond memories of kinda moments. I thought I'd share!

Best US election bumper sticker yet
Only in a Carleton University parking lot would you find this...
Car: White Neon (or Sunfire, can't remember - hey, I was reading the bumper sticker, not the nameplate)
Material of Bumper Sticker: 1/2 of an 8 1/2 " x 11" piece of paper, TAPED to the car with packing tape
Text: 01.20.2009.
The end of an error!
LOVE IT!
I sooo need a camera on my cell phone. I have missed like 5 really good blog fodder photos in the past week and sometimes, you just had to be there because 1000 words does not describe those scenes...
BTW, my birthday's coming...HINT HINT

I'm a special breed of stupid
I know that I'm exhausted from being outside today in the humidity. Heat but especially humidity always get to me and I ended up taking a dead to the world nap for 2 hours after I got home and showered. But still, this does not excuse the stupidity that is my actions when I leave the milk out on the counter for hours (in a "oh, I should have milk with dinner" moment) and then put the cream in the cupboard where the coffee cup was just removed from moments after I discover the spoiled milk.
It's a special breed of stupid to be able to do these dumb things and still con someone into paying me to use my brain. I know, I've said that same sentiment before but I have to echo it again...

It's like Marge is in my head
And no, not Marge Simpson, Marge from Mimi and Marge - they make vegan handbags and jewellery. I got a new pair of earrings by them on the weekend because I had been secretly lusting after them for months since I first saw them so I made a special trip to Westboro for those and some new Mec quick dry T's.
Below are the Marge philosophies posted on their website. I swear, it's like she's in my head (on some days my head does contain one of if not all of these thoughts - except the rent and shoe thing. I can't fathom that - ever. Unless it was a sugar daddy's money - then I could do it).

Dogs bite
So, I needed to go to Mec today to get some new quick dry t-shirts. Given my softball, dodge ball and badminton schedule this fall (not to mention the treadmill that is taunting me in the basement), I needed more athletic clothes so I'm not constantly doing laundry.
I stupidly thought I should go on a Saturday afternoon and even more foolishly thought I should try and park in the Mec parking lot. When I couldn't find a spot I parked on a side street. As I walked up the side street, some little yappy dog was going WILD with barking across the street at someone approaching the house. Now, I couldn't see the man on the front porch because of all the trees around his house (nothing says privacy like making a coniferous wall around your fortress) but I heard him say, "oh, he doesn't bite".
This really gets me up in arms when I hear dog owners say that. What you really should say is "he's not bitten anyone yet" thereby somewhat availing yourself of any impending lawsuits should Fido decide to take a chunk out of someone. It drives me nuts that people think that they know everything there is to know about their animals.
I only say this because I myself have recently experienced the mortification of my pet's bad behaviour. At a recent trip to the vet, Austin, the most docile animal I've ever owned, would have put Linda Blair to shame with her antics with the vet, the vet tech and even myself.
So this is my ranting about you just never know with animals. You just never know.
(I've also created a new label as the rest of them just don't capture this rant well enough)

New definition
So, I'm a closet introvert. Actually, I'm so far on that stupid MB test that it's like extreme introversion. However, I put on a pretty good front for work and social outings but truth be told, there is nothing LESS that I want to do than go out for a night of hoopla. But I go and I have fun and all but it takes some pretty heavy psyching up to do it.
Which is why I'm a little surprised at myself. The social calendar seems to be filling up with some evenings being double and triple booked. I haven't felt this busy since I used to fly home for breaks during university where my days were split up in to mornings, afternoons and evenings to try and get everyone in for visits.
But it's when I saw this magazine ad that I realized there were things I could do to make these moments of extroversion more bearable.
Seriously...don't these give new definition to "putting your party pants on"? I've SO got to get me some of those...because it's the simple things in life that make me smile most. :o)

Mary's DA BOMB!
So, I was telling new reader A about my neighbours and the pranks I want to pull on them over computer problems today and I realized I hadn't shared my dark little desires to be evil with you.
I have 3 neighbours on my street that I want to be kinda mischievous towards for no good reason other than I would definitely get shits and giggles outta it.
One neighbour has a whack o' garden gnomes in her overly-manicured yet strangely still wild looking yard. Another has a foot-long, miniature, white, wicker couch on her lawn with nothing on it - no little ornaments or anything, just this funny looking couch. And finally, another neighbour's got the Mary in a Tub statue with creepy blue solar lights leading up the walkway to it. It's especially creepy at night because Mary's faded to now be almost purely white with the strange blue robe being very pale. And we all know how much I love religious idols so it's self explanatory as to why this gets me wanting to play pranks.
So, how do I get all of them in one fallow swoop?
Thanks for asking!
I think that Mary should lie down on the couch with all the gnomes around her in a remake of Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. After all, Mary's almost snow white herself (and we know she's got that hidden "immaculate conception" purity goin' on) and the gnomes would gladly stand watch over her - it'd be a welcome reprieve from that hideous mess of flowers and weeds my neighbour takes such pride in. And then the couch wouldn't look like the garbage man had forgotten to take it with the trash on Friday.
Genius...non?
You know what's coming next, right? Pics of all 3. (Note to self: I so need photoshop at work.)
Epilogue: A thought he'd pass on this link after our conversation this am. I will be so very disappointed if someone doesn't show me the love for my birthday.

This is how I feel today
I saw this while searching for a pic for my new website at work. It perfectly describes how I feel today - I'm the guy being taken away on the dolly but for some reason the imaginary straight jacket I feel like I'm wearing today because this place is an asylum doesn't show up in the pic.
So I "stole" it. For your viewing pleasure. I hope you're appreciative that I could go to jail for this. The things I do for you readers.

Uncharted territory
So last night I did something I didn't think I would do for a long time. I crossed the unspoken zones and went into the ex's uncharted territory.
During the first little bits of the breakup, I had done a lot of reading online about relationships ending, divorce, blah blah blah and one of the things people talked about it being really hard to get over was the idea of who got to have claim over the favourite places you used to frequent as a couple.
Seeing as how I kept the house and le ex moved out to (and works in) the east end, I've not really had that much to get used to. I never worry that I'll run into him when I'm out and about and after the first getting over of my getting and using my own blockbuster card at "our" BB, getting my own dry cleaning, etc. it's been pretty smooth sailing.
But I've avoided the east end save for going directly to someone's house. I don't shop in the mall he works in and I get a little antsy going to the mid-point shopping region that's on the way to the east end. However, I never really did frequent those places so I can't say I'm actually AVOIDING it. It's been more of a "well, I'd rather not" kinda situation.
But I finally breached "his turf" last night and it was scary but exhilarating all at the same time. I shopped in the mall, ate in the food court across from his store, the works. And I was okay with it. It was more important for me to see L and J than to worry about running into him. Although, J did a pretty good job of running offense for me in case he was in the vicinity but it didn't even come to that.
Check off another thing off the "10 things that prove I'm SO over you" list.

Clean teeth and a ride
I went to the dentist this morning. I love going to the dentist. I feel completely at home in the chair - call me crazy, but I do. I think it was years of being at the orthodontist's office that has made me realize, unless my dentist becomes a meth addict going through withdrawl, nothing will ever induce me as much pain as I once felt at the ortho' s so really, bring on the squeaky clean teeth - yeeehaw!
My hygenist is also my SIL's best friend's little sister. So there's always a good gossip session while she cleans my teeth. Okay, there's a good muffled conversation session while she cleans my teeth. This inevitably leads to me drooling more which is always a good time and just reinforces her first observation of me to her family and mine of "boy, that girl sure can salivate." Combine this with the fact that I have a pretty blunt relationship with my dentist and I'm probably the ONLY client who calls every 3 months to ask when I can come in next, I have to think that I'm a pretty good patient. Seriously, it makes my day to go to the dentist.
Except for today.
Seems that no one was in the mood for much socializing. Chatty hygenist wanted me in and out and didn't even give me a hard time about flossing (although I did note yet another thing of floss being handed over with my toothbrush). And then the dentist, as he always does because he's a bit of an ass, chastised the poor hygenist in front of me for not being more careful with the hydraulics on the chair I was in until he could get it fixed. They then proceeded to argue about it (in front of me) and he gave her a lesson on how to use the chair properly.
WITH ME IN IT!
Have you ever seen those movies where they put someone in like a hospital bed and it like springs open, then shut, then contorts them in all kinds of ways? You think it's just on tv but it's not. Apparently the dentist's chair can do the same thing and I tried to joke about it being a great start to my week with clean teeth and a ride but he didn't seem to get the fact that I like to save my contortionist acts for lovahs, not dentists.
Yeah, happy Monday to me too.

H-O-Double T, HOTT!
Unlike M's secret envy that perhaps I had a more scandalous weekend than I did, no, that status update in FB was merely the name tag I was given by random girl at a party last night. I don't know whether to thank her for the backhanded compliment or be scared at the thought that she thought it was double T worthy.
Anyways, the party last night was yet another in my series of crashes this month. I'm on a crashing spree - for what good it does as I don't seem to be meeting anyone interesting - read single. Sure, I've met some interesting people and have pursued other outings with them since that time but no single men. And this is after my grandiose ambitions that "getting out there" and
"doing things I wouldn't want to do but should in order to meet someone" will come to fruition. After all, E did promise me that...didn't you? And for someone who's a closet introvert, crashing BBQs, weddings, house parties and the like are all very risqué for me and not something I'm comfortable doing. I mean, I mentally have to psyche myself up to do these things. So when is this "break outta your shell" BS gonna pay off?
Take last night's party for example - all the attractive men were gay. I think I'm slowly coming to the realization that single men in Ottawa are a rare commodity - which the hostess kept pointing out in an almost apologetic tone to my self-designated wingman (read stranger I met at the party who was convinced he couldget me laid find me a date) and I at the fact that everyone who was single there was gay. Seems that all of the single women at the party were complaining about the bad ratio and she spent most of her night apologizing for it. Regardless, I still had fun with my wingman and M and did breakfast this morning with them so it wasn't a total bust. And people watching drunk girls dressed in bad 80's costumes (did I mention it was a costume party that wingman, M and I didn't dress up for?) shamelessly shake their booty in the impossibly small apartment living room with all the flamboyantly gay guys did have its funny moments so still better than sitting home on a Saturday night with a rental and take out.
As for finding a single guy, I'm still convinced that I'll take one down at dodgeball and have to practice my CPR moves on him. Hey, a gal canfantasize dream, non?

I want a Cake wreck
So, my dirty 30 is on the horizon (awwww yeah!) and I've decided that the thing I want most of anything is a Cake wreck.
If you've never checked out this website, it's hilarious. Grammar, poor taste, bad combinations, it's a glorious display of Darwin awards from a bakery.
The way I figure it, what better way to immortalize a rowdy shindig than with photos of a bad cake on the internet? Tasteless, bizarre, whatever. I want my cake on that site. But I don't have much of a creative bone in my body these days so I need help...what would you suggest?

Hey! It's Friday!
So, JJ, J and I were in my office last night at an ungodly hour (should there be a caps on that g in ungodly? Or is that only if I'm a believer because then it would be unGodly not ungodly...hmmm...where are my good catholics when I need one?) and were venting about our day. Seems that there's a lot of that going on these days and I'm sure MP (Mexican Princess, aka N) is just smiling and enjoying her caffe con leche and counting her blessings she's not here this fall.
ANYWAYS, we're venting and somehow it came up that it was a trauma filled Thursday for JJ. Then we discussed the meltdown that was had on Monday (except it was Tuesday because we were off on Monday). We then somehow came up with a descriptor for Friday which just begged us to have one for EACH day of the week. Hopefully this adequately describes the mood at work these days:
Meltdown Monday
Tear My Hair Out Tuesday
Why Me Wednesday
Traumatic Thursday
and la pièce de la resistance...
Fuck You Friday
After all, who doesn't want to end their week on a high note.... :o)

Two for the price of one
Sunday afternoon I woke up kinda groggy. I didn't know where I was and I quickly realized in the fuzz that was my consciousness, ughhh, I'm not alone.
It's been a few months now since I last shared my bed with anyone so I'm sure that realization added to my disorientation. As I laid their panicking about what I could have possibly done and where the hell was I, I realized, I'm not only in bed with one somebodies, I'm in bed with TWO somebodies - one on each side.
Could it be, could the cosmic void have really rewarded me for that penny I threw into the fountain on Saturday wishing for a date with not just one but TWO for the price of one? And then I remembered that I had done that with my nephews who looked at me in confusion when I said "Aunt Lynn wishes for a date".
Wait.
My nephews.
Wait. I think I recognize that ceiling.
And OW. Who just kicked me? What kinda conquest did I pick who would kick me?
Ohh...it's just my nephews. I forgot that I got roped into "napping" with them (my brother wasn't being so successful at getting them down on Sunday so I had offered to go down with them) and we all fell asleep for a few hours.
Now, granted, this thought process took about a 4 second span to go through my head and in my own defence, I did have the cold coming on full force by then.

Best chastising email yet
First off, sorry for not posting a lot lately - life's been pretty busy and then I was outta town wit da nephews and now I have a cold. In September. MMM hmmmm. Yeah. Impressed.
Anyways, a colleague had a rather rough day lately. Unfortunately, seems that that's the norm around here lately. However, in the grey clouds of a Tuesday after the long weekend, there was a silver lining. And it was this, ROTFLMFAO email* that she got from our friends over in the parking office...
Dear X**,
Your violation (#12827364287364) has been CANCELLED
Administrator Comments:
Ms X**, Your excuse that seeing others parking over the obvious no parking lines is not a very good one. I am sure you would acknowledge that you know better. Either way, when someone does something wrong, that does not allow you to also do something wrong. By parking as you did, it causes more congestion. This is the 8th parking violation associate to your account. It is also the first parking violation appeal since Dec 06. I appreciate the parking problems associated with the construction as it also caused me to make other arrangements. As the construction is soon to be completed and I believe you will conform to the parking regulations in the future, I will cancel this parking violation. S/Cst John Doe
BAH HA HA HA HA HA! Ohhh, that's a good one. I love the "just because your friends jumped off a bridge doesn't mean you should too" analogy. And the "hey I had issues but you didn't see ME parking illegally" chastisement as well.
Ohhh, WoP, WoP....
